Shirt Woot Contest #132

I decided to do something with the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz for shirt woot's "Heart" themed contest. The design depicts him going about his every day business of chopping wood, when he comes across a tree that someone carved a heart into, and it reminds him of what is missing in his existence.

The drab colors, dead and twisted tree, and the broken portion of the yellow brick road are aesthetics I choose to further strengthen the atmosphere of melancholy in the piece.

I originally included a flying monkey in the design after a few people mentioned they would like to one in it, but after completing the final lineart I felt that it made the design a bit to long, a distracted to much from the focus point, which is the Tin Man and the tree.

Shirt Woot Contest #131

The theme at shirt woot this week is "Palindromes", and I've decided to see what I can do with a concept for "I Met System I".

I went through 2 different colors schemes before finally deciding on the one you see above. It was suggested to me that less dramatic colors would make the design more powerful and moody which worked well. :)
